Carl has been in the music industry for some 25 yrs and is one of the original members of Desmond Dekker and The Aces, being The Aces lead singer. He released his own single ‘Guilty for Loving You’ which reached No.1 in the Reggae Charts and remained there for six weeks.. To date Guilty is played in the Clubs and on radio in the UK and around Europe and is still in demand today.

Since the early years Carl has always been around the Music Industry, he was born in Kingston, Jamaica, where he had his first taste of singing live. At the age of 12 he and his school friend, gate-crashed a talent competition at The Majestick Theatre, Spanish Town Road, Jamaica, by running on stage in-between acts. Those days children were seen and not heard, and they were very nearly thrown off stage, but for the Fat Cigar Smoking Talent Spotter who agreed they could sing. They sang the ‘Chain Gang Song’ and eventually went on and came 2nd in a competition they hadn’t even entered.

That early encounter led him to continue with the music he loved so dearly. He based his singing on Otis Redding, The Drifters and others of that time. Carl worked hard with his music, and at the age of 18 hooked up with other young talent, and The Four Aces were formed.

They were approached by Lesley Kong, the late Manager of Dekker, and they became Desmond Dekker and the Four Aces. They had several hits in Jamaica, but one of the members of the group left as he thought that there were too many in the band then another left as he decided that he didn’t wish to travel, so the group ended up with just two Carl and Barry.

Barry eventually went to America and Carl to the UK. The big break came when a record company in the UK, Pyramid (Trojan Records) picked out ‘The Israelites’ from an album they had previously recorded, and released it as a single. The group reformed in the UK as Desmond Dekker and The Aces. ‘The Israelites’ was a World Wide hit and Desmond Dekker and the Aces were launched. They travelled all over Europe and the UK taking part in television shows, Top of the Pops and Radio Interviews and they appeared with many famous artists of the time. They were the 1st black group to reach the charts World Wide and are mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records for that reason.

The group split in the late 70’s but Carl continued with his musical career, he released his own single ‘Guilty for Loving You’ which he wrote himself, it was a Smash Hit reaching No. 1 in the Reggae Charts staying there for 6 weeks. He continued to make records travelling to Jamaica to record at Penthouse Recording Studios, Kingston, and used some of Jamaica’s best musicians such as Robbie Lyn, Steely & Clevie, Sly Bunbar and Danny Brownie. These records were produced by Donovan Jermain.

In the early 80’s Carl formed his own record label and in 1994 built his own recording studio’s KAL-A-BASH where he records his own albums. He also Writes Arranges and Produce’s records, not only for himself but for others. He has performed with many International Artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, Dennis Brown (with whom he attended the same school in Jamaica), Freddie McGregor, Barry Biggs, and Pat Kelly, to name but a few. He also starred with Frankie Paul in Toronto Canada, and Johnny Nash in Holland.

Carl’s album ‘Forever Yours’ has been released on his own record label and is a collection of love songs which will prove unforgettable. His latest single being ‘Buy me a Rose’ which features on this brilliant album.
